WAYNE UTILITY NEWS

Let us help you lower your heating and air conditioning costs.

If you have a standard central air conditioner we have a $500 financial incentive payment to help you replace it with an air source heat pump.

What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is like an air conditioner that can run forward or backward to cool your home efficiently in the summer and heat your home efficiently in the winter.

Why heat with electricity in the winter?

The market price of electricity is very seasonal.  We buy electricity at very low cost from October through May.  An electric heat pump gives you summer cooling efficiency with the side benefit of cheaper heating costs in the winter.

Why is electricity cheaper in the winter?

Hot summer days require a large amount of power and there is excess power for sale the rest of the year.

Who sells heat pumps?

All local heating and AC contractors can sell and install heat pumps and are familiar with their operation.

How much more do they cost than an air conditioner?

Check with your local air heating and conditioning service man.

Where can I see how a heat pump works?

The Wayne Public Library/Senior Center and the Fire Hall have air source heat pumps.

How can I get more information or apply for the $500 incentive?

Call our billing office at 375-1733 or stop in at 306 Pearl Street and ask about heat pumps.  You are eligible if you are a customer of the Wayne electric system.

How long will this incentive program last?

There is a limit of $25,000 per year for incentives for the next two years beginning September 1, 2005.

Are there other incentives for electric heat and cooling?

We also have a $200 incentive for electric resistance heat and $800 incentive for ground soruce heat pumps during this time period.

What about incentives for businesses?

We have an incentive for business also that is calculated by the size of the heating/cooling system.
