Book sales

The Friends of WPL maintain an on-going book sale of materials that have been removed from the collection in addition to items that have been donated to the library that are not added to the collection.  Proceeds from the sales help to fund the library annual operational budget.  Each spring the group also has a large 3-day sale. Children's Programming

WPL offers a wide variety of children's programming throughout the year, including storytimes, Summer Reading Program, and many special events.  For more information, go to the Kids and Parents page.   (return to top)

 

Circulating collections

The library offers a wide selection of over 22,000 books, audio books on cassette and CD, music CDs, videotapes and dvds.  We subscribe to 80 periodicals.  Our special collections include large print books and a Nebraska history section.  Also available for checkout is a selection of art works.

Computers

WPL Computer Lab has 6 Internet computers for public use and word processing.  The Lab is open during the library's operating hours, closing each day 15 minutes prior to the library closing.  There is no charge for computer use.  Printing to the laser printer is 10 cents per page.  All patrons using the computers in the Lab must sign an Internet usage agreement; patrons under age 17 must also have a parental signature.

 

The Children's Room offers two computers with a selection of educational software.  These computers are not connected to the Internet.

 

Four computers have the library on-line catalog available.  They also provide access to word processing and spreadsheet software.

 

Computer classes are offered free of charge on a monthly basis through the winter months.  Classes include Basic Computer Skills, Basic Internet, Basic Word Processing, Basic Excel and Basic Powerpoint.  Please check at the library for more information about these classes.  (return to top)

 

Conference Room

The Wayne Public Library/Senior Center has a room available for small group meetings of 8-10 people during regular hours.  In accordance with the Meeting Room Policy, non-profit organizations pay a $25 deposit, refundable after inspection of the room.  All others are charged $25 per use.  For more information, please contact the Library at 375-3135.  (return to top)

 

Electronic databases

A variety of databases are available to our patrons through the Nebraska Library Commission, including WilsonWeb and OCLC FirstSearch.  For more information on how to access these databases, please contact the library at 375-3135, or stop by the circulation desk.  (return to top)

 

Equipment checkout

A variety of equipment is available for checkout, including a Kodak carousel projector and a movie screen.  (return to top)

 

Grandmapa Program

This program brings together volunteers and young children in daycare settings.  Volunteers can select from over 40 thematic reading kits containing books and fun activities to share with the children during the visits.  Six picture books are also checked out from the library collection to leave at the home between visits.  This program runs twice a month, September through May.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact the library at 375-3135.  (return to top)

Interlibrary Loan

Books and magazine articles that are not owned by WPL may be requested from another library through Interlibrary Loan.  There is a $2 minimum charge per filled request to cover the cost of searching and postage.  Check at the circulation desk for more information.  (return to top)

 

Internet

The library offers public Internet access with a wireless connection.  Six computers are available in the Computer Lab.  All patrons must sign an Internet usage agreement, and children under age 17 must have a parent sign also.  Printing is available for 10 cents per page.  (return to top)

 

Newspapers on microfilm

Wayne Public Library owns a complete collection of Wayne newspapers, dating back to the mid-1880's.  Obituaries cover Wayne County only, and are not indexed.  Copies can be made for 10 cents per page. (return to top)

 

Outreach services

WPL currently provides rotating collections of large print and audio books to Providence Medical Center, Oaks Retirement Center, and Premier Estates.  Outreach to homes is also available with the assistance of the Friends of Wayne Public Library.  Please contact the library for more information.  (return to top)

 

Paperback exchange

The Paperback Exchange is located just inside the library entrance, and offers patrons the opportunity to trade their gently used paperbacks for others.  Patrons have the choice of reading and returning to trade again, or keeping the traded books for their personal collection.  (return to top)

 

Parenting corner

Begun as a cooperative venture among area agencies, the Parenting Corner opened in September 2001.  Its intent is to offer materials that assist parents and caregivers to provide a healthier/more stable environment for area children.  Books and videos are available on a variety of topics for adults and children.  (return to top)

 

Periodicals

WPL subscribes to about 95 magazines and newspapers of general interest.  Most magazines are available for 2-week checkout.  Newspapers do not checkout.  Most titles are retained for the current year plus one year of back issues.  (return to top)

 

Public access TV

The library is pleased to host the City of Wayne Public Access station, Channel 16.  Use of the channel for announcements or re-broadcast of videotapes is available to area non-profit groups at no charge.  The channel is under the direction of the Cable Committee and is guided by the Cable Access Policy.  Requests for use of the channel must be made in person at the library.  (return to top)

 

Public Fax

A fax machine is available for public use.  Faxes are $1 per page to send or receive.  Cover pages are recommended, and are available at no charge.  The library fax number is 402-375-5772.  (return to top)

 

Public Photocopier

A photocopier is available for public use.  Copies are 10 cents per page. (return to top)

 

Tax forms

As a public service, WPL offers copies of basic federal and Nebraska tax forms.  Additional forms are available for photocopying at 10 cents per page.  If needed, library staff will assist in locating needed information on the IRS web site.  Library staff is unable to assist with interpretation of tax law or completing tax forms.  (return to top)

 

Tours & Displays

Organizations and classes may contact the library for tours, storytimes, and/or demonstrations of the services and resources available.  To make arrangements, please contact the library at 375-3135.
