Seniors are District Runner-up, Juniors
get to final four at state
* The Wayne Juniors ended their season Tuesday night with a
6-3 loss to Ogallala in the Class B Junior State Tournament in Sidney, Neb.
The Juniors lost in the first-round to Gretna, before winning two games
against O'Neill and Sidney. The Junior's end their season with an impressive 26-12
record and were one of the final four teams left in the State Tournament.
Considering all of the players lost from last year's State Runner-Up team, a
big congratulations goes out to all the players and coaches on an
unbelievable season.
* The Seniors
started play on Saturday the 21st at 8:00 p.m. against Platte
Center and held on to win the game 4-3 on a Shaun Kardell RBI single in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Wayne next defeated Blair 4-0 on a complete
game gem on the mound by Jesse Hill. Wayne then played Omaha Roncalli Tuesday
the 24th and lost 10-0, which dropped them to the losers bracket
where they played Bennington in an eight inning pitcher's duel that was
clearly the best game so far of the tournament. Taylor Racely came home to
score in the bottom of the eighth to win the game 1-0 for Wayne. The Wayne
Seniors ended their season with a loss to Omaha Roncalli in the championship
game of the Class B Area 3 Senior District Tournament, for the second time in
the tournament Wayne fell to Roncalli and Roncalli will now move on to the
State Tournament in Gretna, Neb.
* The Juniors
traveled to Blair for district play. Being the No. 2 overall seed the Juniors
received a first round bye and the defeated Omaha Roncalli 12-0. On Monday
night the Juniors held on to defeat Blair 8-7. The Juniors were then defeated
by Blair on Wednesday night before they came back to defeat Blair on Thursday
to win the district tournament and stamp there ticket for a return trip to
the state tournament.
