WAYNE COMMUNITY ACTIVITY CENTER

The
City of Wayne has constructed an activity
center located directly west of the Wayne High School. Officially named the Wayne Community
Activity Center, the $4.2 million project opened November 17, 2002,
and was funded by a 1% city sales tax, grants, and private donations. The
Activity Center includes a gymnasium, Youth Center, Fitness Room, Community
Room, Locker rooms, etc., and is the location of the Recreation Department's
offices and indoor programs.
The
CAC opened and began selling memberships November 17, 2002. Memberships are
paid annually and divided into 8 categories: Family, Adult Couple (married),
Adult Single, Senior Citizen Couple (married), Senior Citizen Single, College
Student, High School Student, and Middle School Student. Also, members have the
option to pay membership fees on their City of Wayne utility bill (if
applicable)

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Wayne
Community Activity Center is to provide a quality multi-purpose facility to
meet a wide variety of activity and recreational needs of the youth, families,
single adults and senior citizens of Wayne, the rural areas around Wayne, the
smaller communities in the Wayne area, and visitors to the Wayne
community. In addition, the Wayne
Community Activity Center will supplement the activity and recreational needs
of the Wayne-Carroll school district and the civic organizations in the area.

Lobby
The
restrooms are located to the left of the front desk. Also, there are 2 locker
rooms located down the east corridor along with trophy cases and storage rooms.
Each locker room has 7 shower stalls. Individual lockers are available for rent
on a yearly basis.

Gymnasium
The
15,000+ sq. ft. gymnasium has 2 main regulation sized basketball courts, which
are dividable into 4 total crosscourts (also used for volleyball), a drop-down
multi-purpose hitting cage, and a 3 lane walking track.

Youth Center
The
2400 sq. ft. Youth Center provides a clean, safe, supervised place for youth to
go after school, at night, etc., and is free for area youth in grades 5-12. No
membership is required. Inside are 2 pool tables, a foosball table, a
multi-game table, ping pong table, 3 video game stations, a closet full of
board games, and a sitting area with a big screen TV with DVD player.

Fitness Room
The
1800 sq. ft. Fitness Room has 4 elliptical machines, 5 treadmills, 2 recumbent
exercise bikes, and a stairmaster. There are also 13 weight resistance
machines, several free weight stations, and dumbbells.

Community Room
The
1800 sq. ft. Community Room is available for meetings, dances, aerobic
activities, and is available to the public to rent. There is a retractable wall
that divides the room if needed.

Concessions/Vending Area
The
Activity Center has a Concessions/Vending Area located adjacent to the Youth
Center.
