{ History }   { Plant Information }

The City of Wayne owns the generation plant and the distribution system.  The diesel generation plant is leased to the Nebraska Public Power District, which in turn is used primarily for peaking purposes.

The plant currently houses 8 diesel generators, which range in size from 750 to 5000 kilowatts.  In times of emergency the city is capable of generating enough power for all of its electrical needs.

      During the summer season the plant is used by Nebraska Public Power District to cover their electrical peaking needs. These high electrical loads are due mainly to crop irrigation. When generation is needed the plant can be brought on line to full load in 2 hours.  At full load it produces 19 megawatts of electricity and burns approximately 1500 gallons of diesel fuel per hour.
