The
Public Works Department is located at 207 Fairground Avenue on the south end of
Wayne. The current facility was
constructed in 1996 when the department was relocated to allow for the
expansion of the power plant. The
19,000 square feet building contains office space, an equipment storage area,
and shop bays. Vehicles and equipment
needed for street and park maintenance activities are located in this facility
and the entire city fleet of fifty-five vehicles is serviced in the building’s
mechanic shop. A metal fabrication shop
is utilized for construction of park signs and playground equipment as well as
maintenance items for various city departments. A wood shop is used to repair and manufacture picnic tables,
playground equipment, and other items.
The diversity of the facility allows the employees to complete multiple
tasks and provide efficient service to the public.
The Public Works Department is
under the supervision of Vern Schulz, Superintendent of Public Works. He has accumulated over 35 years of service
