Mowing of Vegetation

 

City ordinance requires each owner, agent, occupant, or person in possession, charge, or control of any property to cut and remove from that property along with half of the abutting public streets or alleys all weeds or other growth of vegetation exceeding 12 inches in height.  Such weeds or other rank growth of vegetation shall be cut as close to the ground level as possible and shall be maintained as such from May 1 to October 15 of each year.  The Public Works Department surveys the town periodically for such nuisances as well as responding to complaints.  A notice is then given to the appropriate person to comply within 5 days of personal service or 7 days of mail service else the city will cause the growth to be removed at the person’s expense.  Unpaid expenses will be levied against the property.
