Recreation-Leisure Service Commission

Monday, January 19, 2004

 

The Recreation-Leisure Service Commission was called to order at 7:30 p.m., on Monday, January 19, 2004 in the Community Room of the Community Activity Center.  Members present were:  Pat Garvin, Bob Keating, Kris Loberg, Dale Alexander (arrived at 7:50 p.m.), Mike Grosz, Ken Kwapnioski (arrived at 8:03 p.m.), and Recreation Director Jeff Zeiss (arrived at 7:40 p.m.).  Absent were:  Jan Magnuson and Marta Nelson.

 

Motion made by Commissioner Grosz and seconded by Commissioner Garvin to approve the minutes of the November 17, 2003 meeting.  Motion carried, minutes were approved.

 

Jeff Zeiss updated the Commission on activities n the Recreation and Community Activity Center Departments.  The building is extremely busy with many different events taking place.  Memberships and renewals are being received daily.  Step Aerobics, Jazzercise, and Child Development classes are just a few activities being held.

 

Discussion was held on the Community Room usage and fee structure.  Crystal Paitz (CAC employee and Step Aerobics instructor) talked about her program and fees she charges.  Each person pays $25.00 per month, with $5.00 going to the Community Activity Center.  Last month $55.00 was received in comparison to Jazzercise which pays $50.00 for the month but uses the room six days a week.  Motion made by Commissioner Garvin and seconded by Commissioner Keating to invite City Administrator Johnson to attend and develop a new fee structure for usage of the room.  Motion carried.

 

Discussion on developing additional payment options was tabled to the next meeting when Administrator Johnson could be present.

 

Director Zeiss updated the Commission on the W.B.D.A. organization that assists in youth basketball for grades one to six.  Many kind donations have been received to purchase the adjustable baskets for the Community Activity Center.  Parents and volunteers have assisted the Recreation Department in running these basketball activities.

 

Motion made by Commissioner Kwapnioski and seconded by Commissioner Loberg to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried; meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
