Recreation-Leisure Service Commission
Monday, April 18, 2005
The Recreation-Leisure Service Commission was called to
order at 7:35 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2005 in the Youth Center of the CAC. Members present were: Mike Grosz, Bob Keating, Lesa Backstrom,
Byron Heier, Jody Hoffart, and Recreation Director Jeff Zeiss. Absent:
Laura Gamble and Kris Loberg.
Commissioner Dale Alexander arrived at 7:37 p.m.
Motion was made by Commissioner Backstrom and seconded by
Commissioner Grosz to approve the minutes of Monday, March 21, 2005 as
presented. Motion carried; minutes
approved.
Commissioner Keating introduced new members: Byron Heier and Jody Hoffart and thanked
them for serving on the Recreation-Leisure Commission.
The CAC Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, April
24. Only three teams are
registered. Troy Harder has indicated
that at least ten teams are needed to have the tournament. Maybe in the future, change the date to
later in the summer.
Director Zeiss updated the Commission on activities. Summer registration will be held this
weekend (April 22 and 23) at the CAC.
All pool activities will be registered on Saturday only.
The USVBA Volleyball Tournament was held on April 17. A total of 42 teams participated. Games were played at the Wayne Middle
School, High School, and the CAC. Again
the parking situation was an issue as cars parked on the south side of the CAC
on the grass. A small rental fee was
charged to this organization for using the facility. Also, the same day at 3:00 p.m., the team-mates walk-a-thon was
held. A good crowd was on hand for a
great cause.
The pilates and yoga classes have been popular and we hope
to continue these next fall.
The 15 to 18 boys baseball has been practicing since April
11 and the 10 to 18 softball will begin practicing this week for their upcoming
seasons.
A new program (ball room dancing) is also underway, on
Sunday afternoons in the community room.
A total of ten couples are participating with a monthly rental fee being
charged. Jazzercise continues to use
the community room on a consistent basis with classes also being held on
Sundays. Commission is requesting from
Deb Schaefer, owner, an updated report on this program. Director Zeiss will contact her to provide a
report for the next meeting.
The Wayne Basketball Development Association (WBDA) will
have a general meeting on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss season handbooks, etc,
for the future.
Also, Chad Metzler will host our annual 8th grade
lock-in here at the CAC on Thursday, April 21.
It was approved by the Commission to not meet during June,
July, and August, unless situations warrant.
Discussion was also held on payment options in regard to the
six-month proposal requiring one-sixth payment to be paid in six installments
for all memberships, except a college membership. Commissioner Keating made a motion and was seconded by
Commissioner Heier. All were in favor;
motion carried to approve and forward the same onto the City Council.
There being no further business, motion made by Commissioner
Keating and seconded by Commissioner Backstrom to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor; motion carried and the
meeting was adjourned.
