Recreation-Leisure Service Commission

Monday, March 22, 2004

 

The Recreation-Leisure Service Commission was called to order at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 in the Community Room of the Community Activity Center.  Members present were:  Mike Grosz, Kris Loberg, Bob Keating, Dale Alexander, and Recreation Director Jeff Zeiss.  Absent:  Pat Garvin, Marta Nelson, Jan Magnuson, and Ken Kwapnioski.

 

Motion made by Commissioner Keating and seconded by Commissioner Alexander to approve the minutes of the February 16, 2004 meeting.  Motion carried, minutes were approved.

 

Director Zeiss reported on softball and baseball registrations.  To date there are:  45 boys for ages 11 to 14; 15 boys for ages 15 to 16; 9 boys for ages 17 to 18; and 64 girls for ages 11 to 18.  The season and practice will get underway next month.  Coaches have been hired and have been assigned for the respective teams:  Rob Sweetland, 12 and under Softball; Nathan Wall, 14 and under Softball; Renae Beckner, 16 and under Softball; Joel Munson, 18 and under Softball; Jeff Zeiss, ages 15 and 16 Baseball and Chad Metzler, ages 17 and 18 Baseball.

 

Summer registration for recreation and the swimming pool activities will be held on Saturday, May 1st from 9:00 to 2:00 at the Community Activity Center.  Brochures will be distributed to the schools and various other places next week.

 

City Administrator Lowell Johnson was present to discuss the room rentals for the Community Room that include kickboxing, step aerobics, and jazzercise.  Please see attached cost comparison included with the minutes.

 

In other business, Commissioner Alexander received a request and suggested the CAC try and offer a one-day free pass to incoming WSC students to allow them an opportunity to see the facility and the CAC could possibly see increased memberships.  Director Zeiss would pursue this and contact WSC on making this available to the students.

 

Motion made by Commissioner Loberg and seconded by Commissioner Grosz to adjourn the meeting.  Motion was approved and meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
