Recreation-Leisure Service Commission

Monday, May 17, 2004

The Recreation-Leisure Service Commission was called to order at 7:43 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2004 in the Community Room of the Community Activity Center.  Members present were:  Dale Alexander, Jan Magnuson, Mike Grosz, Kris Loberg, Ken Kwapnioski, and Recreation Director Jeff Zeiss.  Absent:  Robert Keating.  Commissioner Pat Garvin arrived at 7:54 p.m.

Motion made by Commissioner Grosz and seconded by Commissioner Magnuson to approve the minutes of the March 22, 2004 meeting.  Motion carried, minutes were approved.

Director Zeiss updated the Commission on activities.  Kick-boxing enrollment continues to grow – approximately 40 boys and girls are participating.  Also, kick-boxing classes will not be held during the summer months.  Baseball and softball teams ages 11 to 18 have been practicing with games to begin next week.

Recap of the summer registrations was also discussed.  Recreation Department has 49 for tennis, 72 park recreation, 50 golf, and 182 registered in baseball and softball.  Volunteers are needed to help run the 5 to 10 programs in softball and baseball as well as park recreation and tennis program.

Rental fees for the Community Room were discussed specifically for the Jazzercise program.  Presently they pay $50 a month to the Community Activity Center.  To stay consistent with the other organizations utilizing this area, a motion was made by Commissioner Garvin and seconded by Commissioner Kwapnioski to recommend a fee of $100 per month for the Jazzercise program.  Motion carried; recommendation was approved.  For the future, fees need to be based on program income and enrollment or time usage fees of the room itself.

The Commission agreed unanimously to not meet during the summer months of June, July, and August.  The next meeting will be held on September 20, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Activity Center.

In other business, Director Zeiss reported that the maple floors in the Community Room and gymnasium will be cleaned, screened, and two coats of gym finish applied during the week of July 26.  Midwest Industrial Floors received the low bid.

There being no further business, motion made by Commissioner Alexander and seconded by Commissioner Garvin to adjourn.  Motion approved and the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
