Recreation-Leisure Service Commission

The
Recreation-Leisure Service Commission was called to order at 7:43 p.m., Monday,
May 17, 2004 in the Community Room of the Community Activity Center. Members present were: Dale Alexander, Jan Magnuson, Mike Grosz,
Kris Loberg, Ken Kwapnioski, and Recreation Director Jeff Zeiss. Absent:
Robert Keating. Commissioner Pat
Garvin arrived at 7:54 p.m.
Motion
made by Commissioner Grosz and seconded by Commissioner Magnuson to approve the
minutes of the March 22, 2004 meeting.
Motion carried, minutes were approved.
Director
Zeiss updated the Commission on activities.
Kick-boxing enrollment continues to grow – approximately 40 boys and
girls are participating. Also,
kick-boxing classes will not be held during the summer months. Baseball and softball teams ages 11 to 18
have been practicing with games to begin next week.
Recap
of the summer registrations was also discussed. Recreation Department has 49 for tennis, 72 park recreation, 50
golf, and 182 registered in baseball and softball. Volunteers are needed to help run the 5 to 10 programs in
softball and baseball as well as park recreation and tennis program.
Rental
fees for the Community Room were discussed specifically for the Jazzercise
program. Presently they pay $50 a month
to the Community Activity Center. To
stay consistent with the other organizations utilizing this area, a motion was
made by Commissioner Garvin and seconded by Commissioner Kwapnioski to
recommend a fee of $100 per month for the Jazzercise program. Motion carried; recommendation was
approved. For the future, fees need to
be based on program income and enrollment or time usage fees of the room
itself.
The
Commission agreed unanimously to not meet during the summer months of June,
July, and August. The next meeting will
be held on September 20, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the
Activity Center.
In
other business, Director Zeiss reported that the maple floors in the Community
Room and gymnasium will be cleaned, screened, and two coats of gym finish
applied during the week of July 26.
Midwest Industrial Floors received the low bid.
There
being no further business, motion made by Commissioner Alexander and seconded
by Commissioner Garvin to adjourn. Motion
approved and the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
