AGENDA

 

CALL TO ORDER:  Vice President Joel Ankeny called the meeting to order.

 

ROLL CALL:  Board members Ankeny, Betty Heier, and Mary Carstens were present, as was Library Director, Lauran Lofgren.

 

NEW STAFF MEMBER – Davi Gradert is the newest Library Aide.  She is working on her Library Science degree.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  The Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:  The financial report was approved as submitted.  WPL is 2/3 of the way through the fiscal year and 66% of the budget has been spent.

Both circulation and number of patrons are up from the previous year.

 

           ● Meetings / events attended

○ Pam Boehle attended a "Teen Space" workshop on creating a space in the library for adolescent materials and readers.

○ Lauran Lofgren attended a Northeast Library System board meeting in Pender.

○ Lauran Lofgren had a Lewis & Clark grant meeting.

○ Pam Boehle spoke to the Optimist Club regarding the Summer Reading Program.

 

           ● Staff Projects and concerns

              

○ The book sale was very successful; 60% of the books were sold and $150-$200 was taken in.

○ Summer Reading Program sign up was held at the Community Activity Center with 190 children registering.

○ The staff sent out contribution letters for Summer Reading Program and have had an outstanding response.

○ Acquired 110 books from the Wayne State CARDS program to use during Summer Reading Program.

○ Summer Reading Program is going well.

○ Pam Boehle provided story times to Wayne Elementary School 1st graders twice in May; also had all 1st graders come to WPL for annual library tour.

○ Said goodbye to long-time aide Mandy Hansen with farewell party.  Said hello to new aide Davi Gradert.

○ Started work on new employee handbook (recommendation from Marketing workshop).

○ A theft occurred from the SRP display in the case.  The lock on the case was removed and a pair of binoculars and some stuffed animals were taken.  The staff is looking into some type of security system.

○ The 4th Lewis & Clark program with Dale Clark and his dog Sailor was held.  There was a great turnout for both the kids' afternoon programs and the evening event at Ramsey Theatre.  The next program will be June 30.

○ The WPL budget request was submitted to Lowell Johnson and Nancy Braden.

○ Lauran Lofgren took some vacation time.

○ The Wayne Library Foundation will be receiving monies for a T. H. Stevenson memorial.

        

          ● Computer concerns:  None

          ● Building concerns:  None

 

OLD BUSINESS

● The technology plan has been updated to include information on phone service.  The         plan was approved as amended.

 

NEW BUSINESS

● The county funding request for 2004-05 has been drawn up.  The board approved the plan and the request will be submitted.  The Wayne County Board of Supervisors received a Pat on the Back award from the Northeast Library System.

● A request to close the library on July 5th for the July 4th holiday observation was approved.

● A request for a WWII exhibit from the Museum was approved.  The sponsor will be contacted and invited.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 5:15 p.m.
